Newell Catania
Newell Catania is a Philadelphia based, multi-media artist whose practice revolves around nostalgia, interpersonal connection, and the personification of found objects. They recently finished their BFA degree in Metals/Jewelry/CAD-CAM from Tyler School of art and Architecture in the spring of 2023.
Newell is an Art Jeweler who focuses on traditional metal fabrication, 3D modeling, multimedia sculptural work, and the study of found objects. She employs maximalist principles and "trash to treasure" ideologies to create whimsical wearables. They have been included in various exhibitions including, but not limited to, {Queerphoria} by Queer Metalsmiths x NYCJW, the 2nd Student Biennial at William Way Community Center, the MJCC Senior Exhibition, and their BFA solo show Something Clever. Newell is looking forward to exploring local craft communities and practices in her post graduate endeavors.
